UV curing is a widely used process, but the technology is especially suited for flat surfaces, which are easier to expose evenly utilizing UV light. For 3D objects, light from one direction is not enough to sufficiently and evenly cure the whole object. This short article aims how this challenge can be overcome.
An excellent article written by our Application Engineer David Ivarsson tells how to improve the curing quality of UV coated 3D surfaces.
"For 3D objects, light from one direction is not enough to sufficiently and evenly cure the whole object. In most applications multiple lamps are arranged around the substrate to secure that all coated areas receive a sufficient amount of energy. With this approach, there is a lot of energy that does not hit the substrate but is lost as stray light. Also, variations in distance, rotation speeds and irradiance angle results in a high variation in the UV exposure over the 3D object, significantly reducing the final product performance."
